Humor Time!

Overheard.

"Don't ask me "What's up" every time we talk. It was always the ceiling, and until my house gets bombed, it will continue to be the ceiling."

Roadtrip!

Guess what?!! We went to Dreamland Aqua Park today ((^_^))

Oh it was so not planned! We just had a breakfast  of spaghetti and garlic bread and we were lounging around reading to Andreas. Hubby asked if we were doing anything interesting later today so I told him why don't we visit UAE's ultimate get-away resort.

We traveled 75 kilometres and along the way, we saw camels and donkeys which were really a delight! However, I also saw numerous vehicles that broke down on the side of the road.  Some were in the process of being towed. I bet those car owners receiving road side assistance  in the middle of the scorching desert were considerate of unforseen events. They may have bought the extended auto warranty

Well my dear readers, if your family like ours enjoy roadtrips, please take time to consider your car's warranty coverage. I have to go now and dowload our photos.

Liyali Beauty Salon

I visited them last night for the second time. I had a hair cut and eyebrow threading (ouch!!!). This is the third salon I entered in all our four years in Dubai. And so far, Liyali Salon provided me the best service.

It's common for girlfriends to exchange salon business cards but I am always hesitant to recommend because I wasn't quiet satisfied with the service. This time, I can proudly recommend =)

If you ever drop by Karama area, the salon is located  at the same level of SANA Fashion. All the staff are Filipinas so bet that you are in good, experienced hands.

Their services include facial, baths, hair colors, rebond, hot oil, cellophane, and everything else you need for beauty and hair maintenance.

I only visit a salon for two basic things and Liyali Salon charges the following:

Haircut - 40 AED
Eyebrow threading - 10 AED

Definitely a good value for money.

LED Lights For Healthier Plants

Like us, all our friends here in  Dubai tried indoor gardening to cool our villas and apartments from the scorching heat. Apparently, we all have the same problem: the desert sun is too much for our herbs and money plants so we leav them indoors, relying on the florescent lamp to provide sunlight. The result is an unhealthy and withering plant that makes gardening somewhat frustrating.

LED Grow Lights should come as good news to us. It is all the rage right now with positive reviews. There are many types of LED Growing Lights but perhaps the most popular is called UFO LED Grow Lights. It uses 90 watts of power which is more intense thus making plants grow faster. It does not produce heat so we can breath a sigh of relief that it will not burn our plants. Moreover, the light emitted parallels the spectrum of light needed in photosynthesis.

This will be a very interesting topic when I share to friends over the weekend. Maybe all of us can finally enjoy the hobby of indoor gardening.

Bottles: Evian Limited Edition

To continue my post on The Collectors Exhibit, I am sharing here a lovely collection from a French woman - The Evian Bottles Limited Edition.

The beauty it seems is how they incorporate luxury fashion and design in a bottled water.

The Man For You Part (IV)

At last, we reached November! lolzz! A good friend's been wondering what's in store for her lovey  and must be cursing me now for not revealing things earlier hahahaaa. Well, I can't take any more hate arrows since I've been feeling depressed for a couple of day now so here they are.

OCTOBER MAN (with a birthday between September 21st and October 20th)
**Has charm - with a capital C. He simply captivates you with his gaiety and he is always a social success. Don't be disappointed if he often wants to join a party when you would rather be alone with him.

He is a devoted and tender lover. Very chivalrous and kind. You must not expect him, aftre marriage, to change into a masterful he-man! He will always be inclined to leave the big decisions to you. He hates quarrels  and will do almost anything for peace.

NOVEMBER MEN (born between October 21st and November 20th)
**They are frankly, a handful! If your boyfriend has a birthday this month , you will never have a dull life with him - but seldom a peaceful one, either!

He is a masterful, attractive lover, a  strong personality, very capable in providing  for wife and family.

If you can get  your own way by guile and are willing to absorb yourself in your own interests - for work takes most of his time - you will find him well worth while.

DECEMBER MEN (born between November 21st and December 20th)
**They are destined to prosperity. Yu need not fear poverty or hard drudgery if you marry one of them. The good things of life will be yours - if not actual wealth, at least you will have sufficient to travel, and entertain, and to indulge in the social pleasures that appeal strongly to him.

He makes a kind, cheery, restless husband. let's hope you enjoy travel and can cook well when at home  for he loves to wander and to have the pleasures of a good table.

He will want you to provide the best without being extravagant in doing so, and to be well dressed on moderate allowance. Yet, though he likes value for money, he is generous rather than mean.

He is rather moody, at times very sociable and jovial, at other times inclined to slitude and philosophy. he has high ideas and a great desire to help the world forward.

That is all for now. I will be sharing our elements in the succeeding posts so if you want to know who your friends are (i.e. the most sympathetic to you and the one you will never be estranged with), so watch out for this space.

Get Back To Fitness With A Jogging Stroller

A fellow expat Mom is having her second child. She is on her second tri-sem pregnancy but she is excited like this is her first child! You see, it took them almost a decade to have another child. So  her shopping list includes cot, pram, baby first aid kit, and all those cute onesies.

We will be meeting each other tomorrow at the Dubai Mall and make the most of the Summer Surprises Sale. We were both e-mailed last week of a 50% discount sale on Mothercare. However, I might suggest to her about a purchase of Schwinn Jogging Stroller. She is in her late thirties and a firm believer in fitness regimen. We both live near live near Zabeel Park which has a kilometer of great jogging track so I think this is just perfect.

Schwinn Jogging Stroller are built with extra padding, and bigger sunshade to keep babies comfortable while maneuvering through terrain. Of course, there is the important reclining features. It even has a bigger wheel for a smooth ride. I think any mother should consider this type of stroller because it gives them a chance to workout and still bond with their newborns.

The Man For You (Part III)

I am feeling all weekendy here with the smell of roast duck all over the house. Oh hubby will enjoy the surprise! He will arrive anytime now but before I prepare our drinks, I am squeezing this post (due to several DMs) while my little boy is cooperating and busy counting his wooden toy train.

JULY MEN (born between June 21st and July 20th)

**They have a very compelling charm. You may thoroughly disapprove of their laziness and improvident ways, yet you can't help adoring them!

If your boy is a July man, you must be the practical one and think of ways and means, for he won't. He'll romantically swear by love in cottage, but not like it quiet so well when it means hard work and getting up early!

He is the real romantic - the one woman man, who finds his wife as lovable when she is old and grey as in her pretty youth. She may be sure that he will never tire of her.

AUGUST MEN (born between July 21st and August 20th)
**They feel like royalty and rather look for the same deference! An August husband expects to a little king in his own home. he has a great sense of dignity, so never, never make him look ridiculous!

He likes artistic, well run home, first-class cooking, and a wife who is an excellent hostess

SEPTEMBER MEN (born between August 21 and September 20th)
**They never go crazy about you. At the same time, in a level-headed way, a September boy may love you dearly and want to spend the rest of his life in your company. He marries for companionship and affection rather than romance.

He is a wonderful comrade, always interesting and lovable. Try to be tidy and methodical when you wed a September man for he believes there is a plan, a time, and a place for everything!

That's all for your weekend conversation, thinking, and perusal lolzzz ((^_^)). We will wrap the topic next week. Until then and have a fantastic Friday!

Losing My Religion

I am committed to my faith. I am hardly a religious person but I do believe in one Supreme Being.
I believe in a kind, fair, loving God who will embrace us no matter what we have done.

I immensely love visiting churches and chapels and say my own little prayer. When we visited Venice early this year, I asked Hubby if we can visit as many chapel as we can. since Dubai  has only one  huge Catholic church. I like attending small intimate mass ceremonies. It eases my soul. I see to it to light up candles for each of the family in the altar or grotto This is my way of gratitude for the trials and sorrows that built our character.

Image of Ave Maria at a century old Venetian Chapel. I like asking intervention from the Blessed Virgin.

But I don't believe in religion. Gosh, I am probably losing my Catholic religion now. I don't believe in advocating one belief to be more superior, more original, more truthful than any other belief they hammer out there.

Affordable Oral-B Brush Heads

There are only two brands in the world that my husband cares about - Levi's and Oral B. You can buy him any of those 3 for 100 polo shirts and he won't say a word. You give him any brand of beer in can and he'd gladly gulp it down in one sitting. Even when buying those gadgets and laptops, it does not have to be Acer or Mac so long as he sees it durable, worth his money, and serves the purpose.

But when it comes to his jeans, it has to be Levi's or none at all. The same way with his electric toothbrush. Only Oral-B will do. Though they are of extreme good quality, these are not the cheapest brands so I am always on the lookout for sale. Fortunately, I found this site called Brush heads which gives amazing deals on dental care and skin needs. I was able to buy a three-pack brush head refill of Oral-B Floss Action 3. Hubby maintains two toothbrush - one for office and one at home so these are exactly the deals a budget Mom like me looks out for.

Oh by the way, the site also reveals about Clarisonic skin brush which can reduce visible pores, blemishes, and dry skin patches. I think that is exactly the beauty tool I am looking for these days. I gotta save up for that rather than spending so much visiting a facial salon.

The Man For You (Part II)

So which birth month does le boyfriend belong? ((^_^))

APRIL MAN (born between March 21 to April 20)
**He is a "real-man" who falls for an intensely feminine type of a girl. he loves his mate, but she will find him hard to influence, very headstrong, ambitious, and inclined to quarrel.

He is the man who is always right! There's a tip for you if you want to win his love.

He is brave and adventurous and likes to travel. He won't make the homebird type of a husband but will be very much the master of the house. As his children grow up, he is likely to disagree with them for they will resent his "bossy" ways.

MAY MEN (born between April 21st and May 20th)
**They are of all males simply born to marry! They have the husband instinct. They are not flirts. When they court a girl, they really mean business.

They are very affectionate but can be very stubborn when opposed. Don't marry a May man unless you are sure you see eye to eye - for he is hardest of people to convert to different ideas. He is devoted to home and expects his wife to be, for he likes plenty of her company. He is really interested in the domestic wheels - and can be rather a nuisance interfering in the house. He is very healthy, very musical and a good money-maker as a rule.

JUNE MEN (born between may 20th and June 21st)
**Unlike their May brothers, they are regular flirts. They take sudden fancies and cool of just as quickly. So don't reckon on your June wooer till you've had him for good awhile.

When he marries though, he generally settles down. Make up your mind and you will get on with your "in-laws" for this husband likes to see a lot of his brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces and to entertain them in his own home.

Thank you so much for the continued interest! Until next post. Ciao!!

The Man For You! (Part I)

While dusting our collections the other day, I found a very old book that I totally forgot about. I bought this last year from Medicine Sans Frontier second hand charity book sale.

The 200-page book printed in Great Britain, is a collection of all kinds of fortune telling. As I browse last night, I learned that the book comes with an Egyptian Fortune Telling Cards which the previous owner might have treasured.

However skeptical we may pretend to be, all of us have an open or sneaking belief in fortune telling. So for fun, I am sharing a chapter to my dear readers. The topic is perhaps the most puzzling for us female. This will come in four parts so do come back =)

Certain signs of the Zodiac, and consequently certain months of the year are naturally sympathetic to one another. Remember this natural sympathy when the boy friend comes into your life. For real happiness and harmony in marriage, you will do well to find out his birthday and see if it comes under one of your affinity signs. If it does, he will have the characteristics you admire, you will get on well together, and nothing in the world can cause permanent breach between you. Many have found this to be true in their experience.

Here are brief description of the men of each month.

JANUARY MEN (born between December 21st and Janury 20th)

**They do most things rather slowly. So if your boy is one of these, do not expect a lightning courtship or a very speedy marriage - though if born before December 28 he will go a little faster. Let him do all the wooing himself for he likes to be the leader, and to make up his own mind.

Don't look for him to be a picturisque wooer. he won't often call you pet names or tell you he loves you. But to the right girl, he shows a deep devotion, expressed in deeds of kindness rather than words.

He is very ambitious. Nothing and nobody (including yourself) must stand in the way of his career. Take a real interest in his work if you want to win and keep him.

FEBRUARY MEN (born between January 21st and February 20th)

**You are quiet likely to meet this boy in a club or institution, for he is interested in all such things and will like you to be.

He is rather pessimistic. But he is fascinating, companionable, trustworthy and a very good father. Expect financial ups and downs when you marry him for his fortunes vary a good deal.

MARCH MEN (born between February 21st and March 20th)

**They make an almost ideal lover for they are romantic, deeply affectionate, unselfish and very generous. If he loves a girl, he will adopt her opinions, spend his last penny on her and do evrything in the world to show his devotion.

At the same time, such a blind love exacts constant attention in return.

He adores travel and often meets his future wife while on journey or staying abroad. He hates long engagements. As long as he is usually lucky with money when young, the wedding bells are likely to ring soon.

As a husband, he is not quiet so successful. He continues to spoil his wife thoroughly in little ways and to be easily influenced by her. But in big things, she must shoulder all the responsibility for he will not. So he should marry a girl who likes taking the lead.

Until next post!

Classic Sweet Style Spaghetti

Once in awhile we crave for that sweet, tangy style of spaghetti sauce that is so popular in the Philippines. However, it is not often that I find Del Monte Sweet Style Spaghetti sauce in supermarkets. To satisfy my palate, I came up with my own recipe using the Italian style spaghetti sauce which is always readily available. I also added veggies as my husband requires but any picky eater will not notice =)
 Classic Pinoy Style Spaghetti

Ingredients
500 g spaghetti
4 cups spaghetti sauce
3 tbsp sweet chili sauce
400 g ground beef
4 tbsp ketchup
4 medium size tomatoes, chopped
1 huge capsicum, chopped
1 medium size carrots, chopped
4 pcs chicken franks sliced into ring
1 clove garlic chopped
1 large onion chopped
1 cup water
1 bay leaf
freshly ground pepper

Here's How
1. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and toss with butter.
2. Sautee ground beef in garlic and onion until it is browned. Give a good grinding of pepper and salt.
3. Add tomatoes, capsicum, carrots, bay leaf, and a cup of water. Let simmer in low fire until veggies are cooked to a pulp and mixture is almost dry.
4. Turn up heat and add chicken franks.
5. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for five minutes. Add sweet chili sauce and ketchup. Simmer for further two minutes.
6. Adjust seasoning and remove from heat.
7. Serve pasta and sauce separately with grated sharp cheddar cheese on the side.

Happy cooking!

She's a Maniac Brainiac Oh oh

I can go on complain, enumerate, and rant about my poor memory and share endless stupid thoughts I said which no sensible person should have said but after almost five years of marriage, I gotta thank my brain because it is precisely what made me bag my husband ((^_^))

I have sense enough to keep him interested. Yet I feel so dumb in a whole lot of ways -- that I think Hubby is the most intelligent person in my universe. Whatever mental capacity I have, It works for our marriage, you know?

Chocolate Peach-Mango Float

It's been years since I made this dessert and luckily, i still had it right. The right amount of sweetness perfectly pleased Hubby that the dessert barely lasted for two days! As in kaming dalawa lang ang kumain waaaah

I know plenty of people who enjoy the sight of this dessert but can't stand sweet condensed part. So for those sensitive to sugar like my dear husband, I share with you the recipe.

Ingredients:
3 cups all purpose cream (chilled for 12 to 24 hrs)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
300 g Chocolate Graham crackers
1 big can of peach halves
1 big can of sweet mango slices (if fresh fruit is not available)

Here's How
1. Slice peach halves in desired size.
2. Using hand beater, thoroughly mix cream and condensed milk. My friend L (a very good cook) shared once that she stirs her mixture about a hundred times.
2. Arrange chocolate graham crackers to fill the base of a serving dish. Pour 1/3 of cream-milk mixture.

3. Add peach and mango slices. Top with graham and cream-milk. Do this until you finish all your ingredients.
4. Nothing beats a dessert with lovely presentation so be creative. Arrange peach-mango slices or cherry, dust with cocoa powder or top with swirls of whipped cream.
5. Chill before serving.

Happy eating!

Rainforest Cafe's Volcano Cake

The signature dessert is made up of brownie fudge cake, vanilla sundae, and cream. There is also a tradition of yelling "Volcano!" when somebody orders this giant dessert.
