Beaches

This month's Girls Talk is all about Reel Life. For a starter, we are ask what movies we can recommend to watch with a friend.

Mine is an old comedy-drama titled Beaches starring Bette Midler .  The theme song is the Grammy winner, Wind Beneath My wings. Boy, I get goosebumps every time I hear the song. I first read the novel back in early college and was soo touched by it I kept looking for the sequel. Yes I did found it eventually.

I was about to graduate when I found a VCD copy at a nearby video shop. I watched it alone and having read the book many times, I knew the scenes and conversations in my heart. Still that did not refrain me from laughing and crying thinking the  characters are the luckiest to have found their soul sister.

Anyways, Beaches is a 1998 movie about lifelong friendship between CC Bloom, a performer and Hillary, a rich debutante. Having met at the age of ten, they see each other through the good times and the bad times, through marriages and divorces, through the disasters and happiness. It epitomizes the bond that can never be broken between two women. I will share to you a favorite scene:

Hillary: I don't even remember what it was I was mad about and I don't care. Whatever it was that you did, I forgive you.
CC Bloom: What I did? You and your lousy letters. Just to get one of them made me special even before I opened it. All your crappy stories, all your big dreams.
Hillary: I didn't know that.
CC Bloom: Well, what the hell did you know? Did you know how bad things were for me? No, because you wouldn't even open my letters. If you had even answered one, just one! Told me what a jerk I was, anything! But you didn't. You took your friendship away without even discussing it with me. So, thank you very much for forgiving me. But I don't forgive you.

Losing My Religion

I am committed to my faith. I am hardly a religious person but I do believe in one Supreme Being.
I believe in a kind, fair, loving God who will embrace us no matter what we have done.

I immensely love visiting churches and chapels and say my own little prayer. When we visited Venice early this year, I asked Hubby if we can visit as many chapel as we can. since Dubai  has only one  huge Catholic church. I like attending small intimate mass ceremonies. It eases my soul. I see to it to light up candles for each of the family in the altar or grotto This is my way of gratitude for the trials and sorrows that built our character.

Image of Ave Maria at a century old Venetian Chapel. I like asking intervention from the Blessed Virgin.

But I don't believe in religion. Gosh, I am probably losing my Catholic religion now. I don't believe in advocating one belief to be more superior, more original, more truthful than any other belief they hammer out there.

The Man For You! (Part I)

While dusting our collections the other day, I found a very old book that I totally forgot about. I bought this last year from Medicine Sans Frontier second hand charity book sale.

The 200-page book printed in Great Britain, is a collection of all kinds of fortune telling. As I browse last night, I learned that the book comes with an Egyptian Fortune Telling Cards which the previous owner might have treasured.

However skeptical we may pretend to be, all of us have an open or sneaking belief in fortune telling. So for fun, I am sharing a chapter to my dear readers. The topic is perhaps the most puzzling for us female. This will come in four parts so do come back =)

Certain signs of the Zodiac, and consequently certain months of the year are naturally sympathetic to one another. Remember this natural sympathy when the boy friend comes into your life. For real happiness and harmony in marriage, you will do well to find out his birthday and see if it comes under one of your affinity signs. If it does, he will have the characteristics you admire, you will get on well together, and nothing in the world can cause permanent breach between you. Many have found this to be true in their experience.

Here are brief description of the men of each month.

JANUARY MEN (born between December 21st and Janury 20th)

**They do most things rather slowly. So if your boy is one of these, do not expect a lightning courtship or a very speedy marriage - though if born before December 28 he will go a little faster. Let him do all the wooing himself for he likes to be the leader, and to make up his own mind.

Don't look for him to be a picturisque wooer. he won't often call you pet names or tell you he loves you. But to the right girl, he shows a deep devotion, expressed in deeds of kindness rather than words.

He is very ambitious. Nothing and nobody (including yourself) must stand in the way of his career. Take a real interest in his work if you want to win and keep him.

FEBRUARY MEN (born between January 21st and February 20th)

**You are quiet likely to meet this boy in a club or institution, for he is interested in all such things and will like you to be.

He is rather pessimistic. But he is fascinating, companionable, trustworthy and a very good father. Expect financial ups and downs when you marry him for his fortunes vary a good deal.

MARCH MEN (born between February 21st and March 20th)

**They make an almost ideal lover for they are romantic, deeply affectionate, unselfish and very generous. If he loves a girl, he will adopt her opinions, spend his last penny on her and do evrything in the world to show his devotion.

At the same time, such a blind love exacts constant attention in return.

He adores travel and often meets his future wife while on journey or staying abroad. He hates long engagements. As long as he is usually lucky with money when young, the wedding bells are likely to ring soon.

As a husband, he is not quiet so successful. He continues to spoil his wife thoroughly in little ways and to be easily influenced by her. But in big things, she must shoulder all the responsibility for he will not. So he should marry a girl who likes taking the lead.

Until next post!

She's a Maniac Brainiac Oh oh

I can go on complain, enumerate, and rant about my poor memory and share endless stupid thoughts I said which no sensible person should have said but after almost five years of marriage, I gotta thank my brain because it is precisely what made me bag my husband ((^_^))

I have sense enough to keep him interested. Yet I feel so dumb in a whole lot of ways -- that I think Hubby is the most intelligent person in my universe. Whatever mental capacity I have, It works for our marriage, you know?

That Extra 5

Note: Starting today, I am joining Girl's Talk. It is a weekly-themed meme for ladies of all ages where you share all things kakikayan under the sun. For the month of July, we are encouraged to brag (teeeheee) on what we love about ourselves - physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually.

For this week's theme, participants are asked to talk about what they love most about themselves physically. So here's my take.

I love my body. Before my pregnancy, I celebrate the physical me. Back in my single, days my grandmother enjoys going to ukay-ukay and buys me all sorts of dresses and jackets and blouses because I can get away with just about anything.

Then after giving birth, I gained 5 kg. Most went to my chest (new bra size, yes!!!) and butt  (new pair of jeans aaaarrggh) and some went to my arms.  Maybe I should get a weight loss plan. A friend suggested, without my asking her opinion, that  I should hit the gym. But heck, when I  see myself in the mirror everyday, I  think everything is still proportional hahahaa!

Or maybe I  just choose to have a healthy body image. Honestly though, I feel like finally, I have those  that they call womanly curves..... I should also consider that Hubby is definitely enjoying those extra curves =)

Thank you so much for your visit!
