Stocking Filler: Cartier

Finally! I was able to vacuum and mop the house. I've been meaning to do that for two days now but oh gosh, holiday stress is catching up on me.

Silk Pink Tie For Hubby

The Christmas List Continues

As I previously shared, I have started my Christmas shopping. I first checked off items for our friends and relatives back home in the Philippines. We are halfway filling up the balikbayan box. We will just add more grocery items and a couple of girly things from Forever 21 for the adolescents. If we can make a trip to Carrefour later today after the boys' swimming, the box can be sealed, ready for cargo next week.

And so right now, I am listing down neighbors, friends, and family members in Dubai. I am also including the kind building watchman and cleaner and Hubby's office tea boy. These are the people who make our lives easier everyday. Christmas is a perfect opportunity to show how much we appreciate what they do for us.

As for Hubby, I am seriously considering led grow lights. He is such an avid gardener. Even if we lack backyard in our apartment, he makes up by buying plant boxes and burying whatever seeds and bulbs he can get his hands on. Mostly survive to seedlings and then wilt away. One can see they need proper sunlight. But the harsh Dubai sun which still unmercifully heats up to 44 degrees Celsius in September will not help. That leaves me thinking led grow lights are Hubby's best option.

Send-Off Party Planning

We just arrived from dinner with Hubby's high school classmate who also happens to be a godfather to our son. G will be leaving Dubai soon to join his nurse wife in the United States. And so the dinner partly talked about the despedida or send off party.

We have barely two months to plan. We have a tight budget but since G has been a very good family friend, we still want to trow something memorable.  Our initial plans are to invite all their high school classmates (and their spouses) who are now residing in Dubai. There will be around 7-9 people. We will book a hotel room, contact a Chinese catering, and bring Magic Sing for an all night videoke. I am imagining already how many people will be dancing on the table lol!

The highlight  of the party will be - first, the Tequila girl. I wonder who is it going to be this time. The wives take turn hahaha. And secondly, the masonic ring for a present. I found a great and informative website that sells antique and modern masonic rings and jewelry. It is understood among them that G is a member of the international brotherhood.

We will just have to choose which fits our budget and hopefully we can place an order next week. Well I gotta go now and research on some fun send-off games. One of their classmate called and he is thinking of making power point presentation of G's life in Dubai. I bet that would be hilarious. Saying goodbye is tough but we have to make this a memorable event.

Stucco

Last night, we were at a farewell party of a family migrating to Canada. As were were talking about their new house, Rose said that it is not as grand as their home in Dubai but with a little redecoration and some new wall paints and a new fence, their new house could be looking really very pretty.

And since Rose does not work but like me a stay-at-home mother, she wants to know how will the painting job be dealt easier. So I told her about an idea on how to build their fence. I read about stucco, a very durable outside coating a material made up of cement, lime, and sand mix with water. Rose was very interested since they intend to build something sturdy that could withstand the time until they are citizens of Canada. I also mentioned that for an easier labor and to save time, she can buy one of those stucco sprayer.

Anything to save time, she said since she is also a mother to a 5 and 7 year old kids. Rose was happy last night to have new ideas for repair and redecoration.

LED Lights For Healthier Plants

Like us, all our friends here in  Dubai tried indoor gardening to cool our villas and apartments from the scorching heat. Apparently, we all have the same problem: the desert sun is too much for our herbs and money plants so we leav them indoors, relying on the florescent lamp to provide sunlight. The result is an unhealthy and withering plant that makes gardening somewhat frustrating.

A fellow expat Mom is having her second child. She is on her second tri-sem pregnancy but she is excited like this is her first child! You see, it took them almost a decade to have another child. So  her shopping list includes cot, pram, baby first aid kit, and all those cute onesies.

We will be meeting each other tomorrow at the Dubai Mall and make the most of the Summer Surprises Sale. We were both e-mailed last week of a 50% discount sale on Mothercare. However, I might suggest to her about a purchase of Schwinn Jogging Stroller. She is in her late thirties and a firm believer in fitness regimen. We both live near live near Zabeel Park which has a kilometer of great jogging track so I think this is just perfect.

It even has a bigger wheel for a smooth ride. I think any mother should consider this type of stroller because it gives them a chance to workout and still bond with their newborns.

There are only two brands in the world that my husband cares about - Levi's and Oral B. You can buy him any of those 3 for 100 polo shirts and he won't say a word. You give him any brand of beer in can and he'd gladly gulp it down in one sitting. Even when buying those gadgets and laptops, it does not have to be Acer or Mac so long as he sees it durable, worth his money, and serves the purpose.

But when it comes to his jeans, it has to be Levi's or none at all. The same way with his electric toothbrush. Only Oral-B will do. Though they are of extreme good quality, these are not the cheapest brands so I am always on the lookout for sale.
