Tiramisu

My dessert during a lovely lunch at a South African Restaurant called The Meat & Co.

 Tiramisu

It is one of the most popular Italian cakes. Tiramisu is made of cake dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks and mascarpone cheese, and flavored with liquor and cocoa.

Coco's Waffle Breakfast

Belgian Waffle is identified by its larger size and lighter batter. Ingredients call for yeast and egg whites to make them fluffy and crispy.

Halo -Halo Fiesta

Where is the ice-cream?

Chowking, Al Attar Bldg., Karama. For as long as I see ube and leche flan on top, I don't mind not being served a scoop of ice cream on my halo-halo.

K is for Knives as Interior Decor

We had lunch last Friday at a gorgeous South African restaurant called The Meat & Wine Co. in Souk Al Bahar. There were so many unique details inside and this wall decor at the waiting area especially caught our attention.

Steak knives make an interesting  wall decor.

Sorbetto

I ordered this summer dessert at an Italian Ristorante called Biella.

Sorbets are all about fruit. With no milk, cream or eggs, they depend only on sugar, lemon juice and fresh fruit for flavor. Elegantly simple and refreshingly tart, sorbets were the rage during Victorian years, when they were served as palate cleansers between rich, heavy courses.

Mango Sorbetto served with dark chocolate stick and garnished with fresh mint.

A sorbetto, the more intense Italian version, generally has more fruit and less water, resulting in a softer, less icy texture. The key is FRESH fruit, for sorbets made with cooked fruit will taste like cold jam rather than the best of summer frozen in a scoop.

Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes

The famous New York-based Magnolia Bakery opened in Dubai last February 10 inside the Bloomingdale's Department Store. I bought two of their melt-in-your mouth signature cupcakes to cheer up Hubby who is soo stressed with work.

Red Velvet and Lemon cupcake with butter-cream frosting. Each costs 12 AED (4 USD). Their regular chocolate cupcakes sells for 10 AED.

A red velvet cake was a signature dessert at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City during the 1920s. According to a common urban legend a woman once asked for the recipe for the cake, and was billed a large amount. Indignant, she spread the recipe in a chain letter.

We found them too sweet for our liking. And the frosting was just too much! I'd happily let go of it next time hihi. I like cupcakes and we'd still be back though -- just not any sooner.  Hubby as i gathered, would happily chew on dried beef chili than buy a cupcake =)

Red Mango Frozen Yoghurt

Two new high-end yoghurt chain opened in Dubai recently but so far, we only had the chance to visit Red Mango in Dubai festival City.

The yoghurt chain is founded in South Korea around 2002. It has now opened in major cities of the world like New York, Singapore, and now Dubai.

Plain small serving of all-organic yoghurt with four topping of your choice. I picked all the fresh berries. Cost 22 AED (P275)

It comes in several flavors like strawberry and pomegranate but I opted for a plain one. When hubby tasted he doubted we could be eating ice cream because it is so fine and creamy and just a bit sweeter than the yoghurt we are used to buying from the grocer. Andreas on the other hand, opted to eat the blue berries. I guess he is a loyalist of Danone and Almarai tub =)

Salmon in Bearnaise Sauce

I'm a huge fan of salmon fish. So whenever we visit Dubai Festival City, we make it a point to have dinner or lunch at Ikea Restaurant where they serve affordable salmon dishes.

Here's what I ordered for dinner last Friday after attending the 2010 Gulf Bike Expo at DFC.

The poached salmon belly  is stuffed with chopped buttered brocolli. It is served with generous bearnaise sauce (egg yolk, shallots, and tarragon vinegar), steamed carrots, fresh lemon slices, and vegetable medallion (mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, and fresh herbs shaped in small mounds and baked to perfection). Yum yum.
